Bboy Daylight 12-13-16

For the past 20+ years Damian “Daylight” Day’s Break Dancing (B-Boy’n) skills have helped put the Midwest on the break dancing map. Internationally recognized and locally renowned, Daylight co-founded two, well-known dance crews: The Battle Cats of Minneapolis & St. Paul, Minnesota and The Junkwartz of Chicago, Illinois. Each of these crews were vehicles for his success in many B-Boy dance competitions throughout his career. As a trained and experienced teacher, Daylight has shared his skills and knowledge of B-Boying by teaching classes at the University of Minnesota, Zenon Dance School in Minneapolis, a multitude of community driven programs, and local schools as well as on a college level. Among some of his many achievements are, being chosen to be a Redbull Beatrider in 2004, as well as contributing roles in the Minneapolis Walker Art Center’s Choreographers’ Evening, teaching at the internationally recognized Hip Hop Huis in Rotterdam, Netherlands, lecturing, and teaching workshops all around the United States.
Highly accomplished, some of Daylight’s accolates include placing in the top 5 at the B-Boy Master’s Pro Am (an International street dancing conference created to uplift and educate people on the art of street dance and Hip Hop culture), being named a two time B-Boy Competition Champion at Scribble Jam (an annual Hip Hop music festival which has been called “America’s Largest Hip Hop Festival”), and a finalist at the UK Play Station Championship (The World B-Boy Championship sponsored by Sony Playstation) as well as many national and international events. Daylight has performed and toured with several music legends under the independent Hip Hop record label Rhymesayers Entertainment of Minneapolis, Minnesota. He has opened for hip-hop greats such as, Run D.M.C., De La Soul, Heiroglyphics, and Jurassic Five. He also has had the honor of working with top US choreographer Rennie Harris and participating in the Hip Hop Moves Festival in Minneapolis alongside Don Campbell and the Electric Boogaloos. Daylight continues to be an influence to the hip-hop community in the Midwest, helping to further educate and encourage development in the new generations of artists and dancers to come.
