DeeJay J.Marz is a Chicago-based DJ who got started in 1995 when he bought his first setup. It was his brother who introduced him to Hip-Hop and House music at an early age. He used to listen to all his brothers house and hip-hop mix tapes which he used as a study guide to help define his style along with his mom’s record collection that ranged from salsa, soul, funk and r&b. You can surely tell that it was the sound and musicality of the scratch that had J.Marz drawn to the turntables. Within all his sets he will always treats the turntable as a musical instrument and never let his beloved art form die.
J.Marz has taken his love for turntablism in his early years and started a crew in 1998 by the name of “Phonograph Scientists” . After doing a few turntable band shows in the city and throughout the Midwest; it landed them an opening spot for Akbar’s Big Bang Boogie Album release party in 2001. Since then J.Marz has been actively involved in a new turntablist crew called BD3k (BeatDown3000) members include DJ Chuck Fresh, Sage Fonte, Lord Dubious, JRD the Ambassador and Kinky P. J.Marz is also one of the many talented resident radio DJ’s with Power Style Radio MixMasters (DJ’s Moz Definite, IllaNoize, HanzSolo and Nobley Nobe) airing Tuesday nights from 8:30pm – 11:30pm on www.que4.org and now is a part of the nationally renowned Scratch DJ Academy in Chicago co-founded by Jam Master Jay.
