Adisa UltraOmni interview 7-7-15

Adisa is a young rising creative director from Florida who has been dancing and choreographing for and alongside some of the industries most influential artist! As a dancer Adisa began dancing in the streets of Miami at the age of 7 finding his way to hip hop and underground street styles. Falling in love with dance he wanted more and began competing in local neighborhood battles and competitions, he also began dancing at the Jubilee Dance Theatre where he studied Ballet, Jazz and Modern techniques Horton and Graham. By 17 he was choreographing for local artist, companies and shows. Landing his 1st major job working with CASH MONEY/YOUNG MONEY RECORDS and PO’ BOY ENT. Expanding on his journey Adisa then moved to New York where he would study and train in many forms of Dance. Upon arriving he was scouted by Keith Anthony Lewis who took a personal interest in Adisa’s training and development pushing him to begin a career in Dance/Musical Theatre. Following his mentors advice Adisa then began to audition for Broadway, off Broadway, various conservatory companies and schools. Booking his first show JAZZ AINT DEAD an off Broadway dance show review, he also received a scholarship to the Joffery Ballet Academy’s Jazz and Contemporary Program expanding on his conservatory and Modern training learning Limón and Dunham. While working and going to school Adisa also found time to explore the underground street dance culture of NYC where he would come to find a style that just sorta stuck. Studying underground styles such as House, Lofting, Waacking and Vogue! Adisa took special interest in expressive styles Waacking and Vogue, learning as much as he could about the style he eventually began competing locally and internationally becoming a world renowned dancer traveling the world winning international dance battles for Waacking and Vogue. Yearning for more knowledge Adisa began to dig deeper into the intellectual properties of the Gay Black American sub culture and its contributions to dance. Continuing to share his gifts with the world Adisa also began teaching at the local youth programs where he found a passion in working with children and dance education. Moving on to teaching at the Harlem school of the arts and becoming the resident urban dance history teacher at the Harlem Ballet Academy, also developing the dance program at the Brooklyn School of Music and Theatre High School. Wanting to travel more Adisa continued teaching the art of Vogue and Waacking while also lecturing about the history of Gay Black-American underground sub culture, traveling the world educating dancers and intellectuals on the art form and lifestyle in many dance institutions nationally and internationally. Adisa then went back to the stage to once again to dance and this time choreograph/direct for the off Broadway show Jazz Ain’t Dead, feature in the musical “Newark is Burning” a play based on the ballroom culture of NYC! Looking for more commercial success he then relocated to Los Angeles going on to dancing for such artist as Pharell, Flo Rida and Capital Cites just to name a few and also become Creative Director of the Steele1 Entertainment Company and the 2013 season of the Jayneoni Moore’s Ballet Company winter production! Nowadays you can find Adisa teaching and lecturing and choreographing in such studios as LA’s premier dance studio DEBBIE REYNOLDS DANCE STUDIO, MOVEMENT LIFESTYLE and IDA HOLLYWOOD. NYC’s own BROADWAY DANCE CENTER and HARLEM SCHOOL OF THE ARTS, and many other institutions world wide sharing his love and cultural experiences with the globe.
